What A Boost To Ford’s EcoBoost Engine

At the billion pound Advanced Propulsion Centre, students study the 1.0 litre EcoBoost engine to further improve its emissions

If you are a college student and studying zero emissions vehicles, ever wonder how much would it cost? Well, the Loughborogh University in UK has taken the study to a whole new level by putting in a billion pounds on new Advanced Propulsion Centre. Here the students will study Ford engine in 1.0 litre size with EcoBoost.

In the beginning this centre will be offering a total of four professor-type positions, including one chair. The purpose is to teach students about low-carbon vehicle technologies, especially the hybrid and electric ones. These new positions are costing the school £1.5 million. The biggest project currently is Advanced Combustion Turbocharged Integrated Variable-Valve train Engine (ACTIVE) costing £26 million, which is funded by Ford and others along with school itself.

Prime objective of ACTIVE is to study already popular 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine built by Ford and to further improve its efficiency that will ensure, it exceeds 2020 emission regulations.
The world is very confident that Loughborough University will be able to improve this engine as it has years of experience with automakers – Rolls-Royce, Lotus Hotfire engine in 2008 and Fuel Cells in 2007 – on advanced energy technologies.
