3 Reasons Why Ford Transit Leads the LCV Market

Ford Transit Custom

Ford Transit comes with wide choice of models and is fun to drive

Ford Transit is the most successful light commercial van since its first launch in 1965 and still leads the market. Ford Transit custom is a mid-sized van and is a relatively new version of the Ford Transit which has been developed to separate the one-ton and two-ton versions.

Ford has two types of rivals from every brand; Volkswagen offers the Transporter and the Crafter, Mercedes has the Sprinter and the Vito.

Ford Transit Custom rivals these models by offering 1.5 tons of payloads. There is the short wheelbase, long wheelbase and custom models available. The entire Transit diesel model line-up comes with class-leading Ford Duratorq engines while petrol versions run on Ford EcoBoost engines.

The most successful Transit Custom model has a 2.2 litre TDCi Duratorq engine. This engine achieves best fuel economy stats compared to other competitors. The Transit Custom offers a car-like driving experience with the adjustable steering column.

Driving seat of the new Transit Custom offers eight-way adjustments to facilitate drivers of any size and shape. The 100bhp engine works the bit harder when fully loaded, but six speed gearbox facilitates the engine to run smooth.

Ford Duratorq 2.2 litre engine comes with three power options, 100bhp, 125bhp and 155bhp. However, the six-speed manual gearbox is standard on all engines.

The entire engine line-up delivers a claimed fuel economy of between 35 mpg to 45 mpg while the carbon emissions are claimed between 178g/km to 189g/km. These figures are higher compared to Volkswagen Transporter, offering 32mpg to 40mpg and CO2 emissions of 166g/km to 240g/km.

If Volkswagen offers the Transporter with BlueMotion technology then Ford has the ECOnetic technology to match it. These tactics help the Transit to maintain its hold over the LCV market.
